On August 12, 2017, Pastor Hilliard escorted twenty-two girls via a coach bus to partake in a shopping spree at the Galleria Mall. Each girl received a budget of one-thousand dollars to shop at various stores such as Nordstroms, Aldo, H&M and Forever 21.

H-E-B presents Juneteenth Heritage Celebration at Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site

On the 19th of June 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston and made a declaration of freedom ending the bondage of approximately 250,000 enslaved men, women and children in Texas. Since that time, Juneteenth has been celebrated and remembered by picnics, parades, family reunions, pageants, barbecues and games. The Brazos Valley has a rich history in celebrating Juneteenth, including the Juneteenth parade in Brenham, TX, which began in the early 1870s and continues to this day.

28 emerging leaders will explore strategies for community empowerment

The Department of Neighborhoods (DON) is pleased to announce the Complete Communities University (CCU) Class of Spring 2023. Twenty-eight aspiring leaders from communities across Houston will participate in the eight-week leadership training course. Selected through a competitive application process, the participants represent City Council districts A through K and At-Large districts 1-4, including all 10 historically underserved communities receiving neighborhood revitalization services under Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Complete Communities initiative.
