Houston Grand Opera (HGO) is proud to announce its 2022–23 season, featuring a new production of Dame Ethel Smyth’s rarely-performed masterpiece The Wreckers, the triumphant return of HGO-commissioned mariachi opera El Milagro del Recuerdo, the U.S. premieres of Opéra National de Paris and Royal Opera House’s production of Werther and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía of Valencia’s production of Salome, and beloved HGO classics La traviata, The Marriage of Figaro, and Tosca.

UMHB Fall Commencement 2021

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor held commencement services for the Fall 2021 semester on Friday, Dec. 3, at the Bell County Expo Center. This was the university's 165th graduating class, and a total of 417 students were awarded degrees, including 333 baccalaureate degrees, 45 master's degrees, and 39 doctoral degrees.

The BBVA Foundation Award Goes to James Allison, Creator of the First Immunotherapy to Prove Highly Effective Against Cancer

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the Biomedicine category goes, in this tenth edition, to American immunologist James P. Allison, whose research, says the jury, "had led to harnessing the immune system to combat cancer in patients and the development of new therapies." Allison was the first to demonstrate that immunotherapy can treat cancer effectively, initiating an approach that "has provided clinical benefit to many cancer patients" and "stimulated the development of a new class of drugs employing the immune system to fight cancer."

The mid-1960’s became chaotic with anti-war demonstrations growing stronger and stronger. Our government was disingenuous with the public. In other words, they were lying to us. As the case for that became stronger and stronger, life in America became depressing and tense.
