Port Houston S/MWBE Business Equity Program One-Year Anniversary

In 2021 Port Houston launched a minority- and woman-owned business enterprise (MWBE) initiative to compliment and expand on the accomplishments of the successful small business program. The new umbrella, Business Equity, is more than a procurement program it is an organizational commitment and investment to serving the local business community.

Highlights for 2022:

Total of 1,436 S/MWBEs, of these 1,040 are enrolled MWBEs (72%)

157 newly enrolled MWBEs in one year

Awarded $58M to MWBEs for Port Houston projects

49 graduates of the OpPORTunity U program since 2021

MWBE Wins:

Xennex, a local Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) technology solutions firm, was awarded $1.7M and nominated for the SBA Houston District Woman-Owned Business of the Year Award.

Siebert Williams Shank & Co, an MBE company, chosen by Port Houston as lead underwriter for $400M bond issuance.

Grammer Construction, a MBE company and McCarthy Partner Development Program participant, has secured contracts with McCarthy to work on Port Houston projects.

DM Electrical and Construction, a MBE company, graduated from the Tellepsen + Port Houston Business Proficiency program and secured a contract with Tellepsen upon completion of the program.

Three OpPORTtunity U graduates, SD Candy Company, Visual AV LLC, and DTI A-Group/McCory Engineering Company secured contracts with Port Houston and partner firms.
