The Black Hamptons & The Family Business are based on The New York Times bestselling author Carl Weber's novels
Alumni of two historically black colleges and universities (HBCU's), and members of the Divine 9 have come together to produce two TV Series both on BET+. "Carl Weber's The Black Hamptons" a new four-part original limited series premieres on BET+ starting on August 25th, while Season 4 of "Carl Weber's The Family Business" premieres on BET+ on September 1st. Episodes of Seasons 1, 2, and 3 are available to catch up on now ON DEMAND on BET the network and on BET+. On Monday, January 30, the NFL hosted 300 kids from the Houston area at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Kroger’s Mobile Pharmacy Trailer is on-site at the George R. Brown Convention Center to serve displaced Houston families affected by Hurricane Harvey. Hundreds of guests each day are having prescriptions filled. There are no restrictions re: the originating pharmacy--the team can fill prescriptions from any pharmacy, as well as prescriptions written by the on-site DMAT team (disaster medical assistance transport).

The most recent addition to Avenida Houston convention and entertainment campus is the long-awaited Welcome Center which features three distinct experiences: the city’s official Welcome Center; Launch, a retail outlet; and Avenida Eats, a grab-and-go eatery. The lecture will bring together Geneva Bland, Marian Tolan and Lezley McSpadden, the mothers respectively of Sandra Bland, Robbie Tolan and Michael Brown. The lecture could not be more timely.

Brain stimulation device enables new understanding of OCD
A team of researchers surgically implanted brain stimulators in patients with severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) to not only treat their disabling symptoms but also – for the first time – to simultaneously record and wirelessly stream brain signals. All five patients, whose OCD symptoms were severe and resistant to conventional therapy, have enjoyed significant improvement. In addition, the novel recordings have helped explain the relationship between brain activity and OCD symptoms. Their findings were recently published in Nature Medicine.
Jose Altuve Named Hickok Belt® Award Winner for July 2017
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of July 2017. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Altuve for his torrid hitting throughout the month. In July, he batted .485 with four home runs, 21 RBI and a .727 slugging percentage.
