Jeremy Jordan to Headline Theatre Under The Stars’ Lights Up Gala: A Back to the Future-Themed Night of Broadway Brilliance

Houston’s arts scene is gearing up for an unforgettable evening of Broadway glamour, retro vibes, and community celebration as Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) presents its highly anticipated Lights Up Gala on Friday, November 7, 2025, at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston. This year’s gala, themed “Back to the Future: A Theatrical Time Travel,” will transport guests through musical eras from the 1950s to the 1980s and beyond — all led by the electrifying presence of Broadway icon and Houston native, Jeremy Jordan.

A Star-Studded Night with Jeremy Jordan

Few performers shine as brightly on both stage and screen as Jeremy Jordan. Currently nominated for a 2024 Tony Award® for his role in Floyd Collins, Jordan is best known for his powerful portrayal of Jack Kelly in Disney’s Newsies, earning both Tony® and Grammy® nominations. His extensive résumé includes acclaimed performances in Bonnie & Clyde, Waitress, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Great Gatsby, along with fan-favorite roles in Supergirl, Smash, and The Last Five Years. He also leads the rock band Age of Madness, showcasing his genre-crossing talents.

“Jeremy has a rare ability to stir audiences with his voice, his presence, and his passion,” said Dan Knechtges, Artistic Director of TUTS. “Having him headline this year’s gala elevates what is already set to be an extraordinary evening.”

A Theatrical Journey Through Time

Inspired by the whimsical world of Back to the Future, the 2025 Lights Up Gala promises a multisensory journey through decades of iconic musical theatre. From the swingin’ '50s to the vibrant '80s — and a leap into the future — this immersive experience will feature themed décor, gourmet dining, captivating performances, and live and silent auctions.

Guests can expect nods to the beloved Back to the Future film and musical — including Hill Valley-inspired design elements, clock tower surprises, and plenty of ‘80s sparkle. The night’s festivities will reflect both the nostalgia of musical theatre history and the forward-looking spirit of TUTS.

Champions of the Arts

The gala is proudly chaired by April and Wells McGee, dedicated supporters of the arts and long-time champions of TUTS. Their leadership ensures a magical night that also serves a greater purpose.

“Every detail of this gala reflects our belief in the power of the arts to change lives,” said April McGee. “We are thrilled to help bring this vision to life and support TUTS in its mission to inspire and educate.”

Investing in the Future of Theatre

More than just a celebration, the Lights Up Gala is a critical fundraising event for Theatre Under The Stars. Proceeds support the organization’s education and community engagement initiatives, including Humphreys School of Musical Theatre, inclusive programming, and free performances that expand access to live theatre across Houston.

“This evening is about more than Broadway brilliance,” said Hillary Hart, TUTS Executive Director. “It’s about creating opportunities—ensuring that the magic of musical theatre is accessible to all Houstonians, regardless of background. Every ticket purchased, every dollar donated, helps us build a more vibrant and connected community through the arts.”
