Al B. Sure! Amplifies the Call for Health Equity in Organ Transplantation on National Stage

Music icon and health advocate Al B. Sure! is leveraging his powerful voice far beyond the stage, stepping boldly into the national spotlight to champion health equity in organ transplantation. As the Executive Chairman of the Health Equity in Transplantation Coalition (HEiTC), Sure! appeared on Good Day New York this morning to shed light on a cause close to his heart—advocating for equal access to lifesaving transplant care, particularly in underserved communities.

The Grammy-nominated artist, known for his timeless R&B hits, shared his deeply personal health journey—one that included a harrowing battle with multi-system organ failure—as the foundation for his unrelenting fight for change. "I'm not here for politics or elections," he said passionately. "I'm here to save lives."

His appearance comes at a pivotal time. Just hours prior, Al B. Sure! joined civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton on MSNBC’s The Beat with Ari Melber to address alarming proposals in Congress that could slash Medicare and Medicaid funding—moves that the Congressional Budget Office warns would strip millions of Americans of critical coverage over the next decade.

“These cuts would devastate already vulnerable communities,” Al B. Sure! said. “Especially for transplant patients, access to consistent, quality healthcare is not a luxury—it’s survival.”

The coalition’s advocacy doesn’t stop at interviews. At the National Action Network Annual Convention in New York City last month, HEiTC hosted a fireside chat with Melber, where Al B. Sure!, Co-Founder Rachel Noerdlinger, and Senior Advisors Jennifer Jones Austin and Justin Brannan—alongside hip-hop artist Freeway, a transplant recipient himself—tackled systemic disparities impacting transplant patients nationwide.

HEiTC’s impact continues to grow through partnerships, including with LiveOnNY, the federally designated organ procurement organization for Greater New York. Under the leadership of Leonard Achan, Dr. Connie Kristine, and a passionate team of over 300 professionals, LiveOnNY works "night and day" to advance education, advocacy, and logistical coordination that transforms organ donations into second chances at life.

As the healthcare conversation in Washington intensifies, Al B. Sure! and the HEiTC are ensuring that voices from marginalized communities are not just heard—but empowered. Their mission: to inspire legislative change, elevate public awareness, and dismantle barriers that prevent equitable access to transplant care.
