Casting Honor and Healing: The 14th Annual “Salute the Heroes” Fishing Tournament Unites Veterans and Community in Galveston

Galveston, TX – May 10, 2025 – Beneath the golden sunrise over the Gulf Coast, more than 100 American heroes—veterans and active-duty service members—will set sail for a day of celebration, connection, and healing at the 14th Annual “Salute the Heroes” Fishing Tournament, hosted by the Heroes for Freedom Foundation. Taking place at Waterman’s Marina in Galveston, this cherished event returns bigger than ever, promising a powerful blend of competitive spirit, community camaraderie, and heartfelt appreciation for those who’ve bravely served our nation.

Led by retired U.S. Army Special Operations Captain Philip W. Jalufka, now CEO of Austin-based Legacy International Resort Properties, this year's tournament features over 30 boats and individual guides, all volunteering their time to take participating warriors out on the water for a fishing experience they won’t forget.

“This is more than a tournament—it’s a salute, a gesture of gratitude, and a moment of peace for the warriors who’ve given so much,” says Jalufka. “We’re honored to create a space where service members can unwind, connect, and be celebrated.”
