Houston Unites for Safety: Largest Disaster Readiness & Resilience Expo to Empower Residents Ahead of 2025 Hurricane Season

As Houston faces another unpredictable hurricane season, city leaders and community partners are coming together to launch one of the most comprehensive preparedness initiatives in the region. The Disaster Readiness and Resilience Clinic & Expo, scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the George R. Brown Convention Center (Hall A), promises to be Houston’s largest and most inclusive disaster readiness event to date.

Presented by CenterPoint Energy and supported by the City of Houston, Harris County, and an impressive lineup of emergency agencies and nonprofits, the Expo is a free, family-friendly event offering life-saving resources and education for all Houstonians. Running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event provides critical, hands-on tools to help residents strengthen their preparedness before a storm strikes.

A City-Wide Call to Action

With the rising frequency and severity of natural disasters—including hurricanes, floods, and power outages—Houston’s leaders are urging residents to be proactive, not reactive. The Expo offers a unique opportunity to connect with experts, emergency response teams, and local organizations who will provide step-by-step guidance on everything from evacuation planning to stormproofing homes.

"Preparedness is not just a personal responsibility—it's a community mission," said one city official involved in the planning. "This Expo is about giving people real tools to protect themselves, their families, and their neighborhoods."

Spotlight on Inclusive Preparedness: DAFN Clinic

A standout feature of the event is the Disaster Access and Functional Needs (DAFN) Clinic, designed specifically for individuals with disabilities, seniors, and others with additional needs during emergencies. The clinic will provide tailored preparedness strategies, medical resources, and critical service connections to ensure no one is left behind in the event of a disaster.
