GM Supercharges U.S. Manufacturing with $4 Billion Investment—Driving America’s Future, One Bold Move at a Time

In a powerful show of commitment to American industry and innovation, General Motors (NYSE: GM) has announced a sweeping $4 billion investment over the next two years aimed at accelerating domestic production of both gasoline-powered and electric vehicles (EVs). With a capital strategy that reflects long-term vision and national pride, GM is not just building cars—it’s building the future of U.S. mobility, community by community.

A Future Fueled by Innovation and Opportunity

GM’s strategic investment plan will boost its U.S. vehicle assembly capacity to more than 2 million units annually by 2027, solidifying its position as a leader in both EV and internal combustion engine (ICE) markets. The company also reaffirmed its 2025 capital spending guidance of $10 to $11 billion, with expectations to invest $10 to $12 billion annually through 2027. This continued financial momentum reflects GM’s commitment to modernizing American manufacturing while balancing key programs and optimizing efficiency.

The future of transportation will be driven by American innovation and manufacturing expertise,” said Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of General Motors. “Today’s announcement demonstrates our ongoing commitment to build in the U.S. and support American jobs. We're focused on giving customers more choices with the vehicles they love—whether powered by electricity or fuel.”

Strategic Expansion Across the Nation

GM’s announcement includes key upgrades to manufacturing plants in Michigan, Kansas, and Tennessee, boosting the production of several of the company’s most popular and high-demand models:

🏭 Orion Assembly | Orion Township, MI
Production of gas-powered full-size SUVs and light-duty pickups is set to begin in early 2027. In turn, GM’s Factory ZERO in Detroit-Hamtramck will become the EV epicenter, dedicated to assembling the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac ESCALADE IQ, and GMC HUMMER EV.

🚗 Fairfax Assembly | Kansas City, KS
Starting mid-2027, Fairfax will manufacture the gas-powered Chevrolet Equinox, whose sales surged over 30% in Q1 2025. The plant remains on schedule to begin production of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV later this year and is slated for additional investment to support GM’s upcoming generation of affordable electric vehicles.

🚙 Spring Hill Manufacturing | Spring Hill, TN
Spring Hill will add the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer to its lineup in 2027, which will complement production of GM’s luxury EVs—the Cadillac LYRIQ, Cadillac VISTIQ, and the enduringly popular Cadillac XT5.

Impact Beyond the Assembly Line

With 50 manufacturing and parts facilities across 19 U.S. states, including 11 vehicle assembly plants, GM’s economic impact is both wide-reaching and deeply rooted in American communities. Nearly one million Americans rely on GM’s ecosystem for their livelihoods, including employees, suppliers, and dealership partners.

This goes beyond the billions of dollars—this is about hardworking Americans building vehicles they’re proud of, and that customers trust,” said Mark Reuss, GM President. “Our footprint is national, but the impact is deeply local. These investments ripple through our economy and strengthen the very fabric of the communities we serve.”

Driving Sales and Shaping the Market

GM continues to dominate the U.S. automotive market. In 2025, the company is poised to deliver:

A sixth consecutive year as the U.S. full-size pickup sales leader

Its 51st year leading the full-size SUV category

More Than Cars—It’s About the Future of America

As the company balances its transition to a zero-emissions future with sustained investment in ICE vehicles, one thing is clear: GM is not just keeping pace—it’s setting the pace.
