Northpark Drive Closure Scheduled for March 5-7: What Kingwood Residents Need to Know

Kingwood area residents should prepare for a temporary but significant traffic disruption as Northpark Drive at the railroad tracks will be completely closed from Wednesday, March 5, through Friday, March 7. This closure will allow Union Pacific Railroad to install new rail tracks as part of a major roadway expansion project. During this period, Northpark Drive will be inaccessible in both directions.

To help mitigate the impact, contractors will construct a U-turn just before the track closure, ensuring access to local businesses, including Dunkin’ Donuts. The Houston Police Department’s Mobility Response Team will also be deployed to assist with traffic flow along Kingwood Drive and other key intersections during peak hours.

What to Expect:

  • Traffic Control Measures: Flagmen and orange traffic cones will be placed to guide drivers safely through the construction zone.
  • Increased Noise Levels: Residents may experience higher noise levels due to trucks and heavy equipment in operation.
  • Continuous Access: Driveways and sidewalks will remain accessible throughout the project.

Additionally, residents are encouraged to stay informed about the ongoing improvements to Northpark Drive by attending the next TIRZ Board meeting on Thursday, March 13, at 8:00 AM at the Kingwood Community Center. These meetings are open to the public and provide key updates on infrastructure projects, including the Northpark Drive Overpass Project.
