Fleet Week to be History Making for Houston and the State of Texas

It's official! Admiral Daryl Caudle, Commander of the US Fleet Forces Command, formally accepts Houston Mayor John Whitmire's invitation to bring the U.S. Navy to Houston for Fleet Week this November. Both the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps celebrate 250 years of service this year, and on top of the anniversary, Fleet Week comes to Houston for the first time. Not only is it first time for Houston, but it'll be the first for the State of Texas as no other cities along the Texas coast have hosted Fleet Week before.

Set to unfold in and around the Port of Houston, this historic celebration will bring together three Navy vessels, more than 1,000 sailors and Marines, and an unforgettable lineup of public festivities. The citywide event is a collaboration between the City of Houston, Houston First Corporation, Discovery Green, and a host of community and civic partners, all working in unity to create a world-class experience that honors America’s sea services.

"Fleet Week will build on the positive relationships between the military and the community and allow Houstonians and visitors to learn more about the U.S. Navy’s proud history of courage and service,” said Mayor Whitmire. “This is an honor for our city, and I’m proud to welcome our Armed Forces to Houston.”

🇺🇸 A First for Texas, A Proud Moment for Houston

Fleet Week is a time-honored tradition that celebrates the strength, heritage, and future of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, offering civilians a rare, up-close look at military life through ship tours, live demonstrations, educational outreach, and public ceremonies. For the Navy, 2025 also marks its 250th anniversary—a historic milestone that makes Houston’s inaugural hosting even more symbolic.

“At least 1,000 sailors and Marines will flood the zone around your great city,” remarked Admiral Caudle. “Our Navy looks forward to celebrating our 250th in Houston with you.”

The week-long celebration will include hundreds of events ranging from family-friendly entertainment and interactive exhibits to veterans recognition events and community service projects. Fleet Week Houston will also serve as the culminating event for the Navy and Marine Corps' yearlong anniversary celebrations and align with Houston's Veterans Day commemorations.

🌎 Houston’s Deep Maritime and Military Roots

As one of the busiest ports in the United States, the Houston Ship Channel plays a vital role in global commerce. Every day, billions of dollars in trade flow through this gateway to the world—and the Navy stands as a key protector of this economic lifeline, safeguarding seaborne operations across international waters.

Fleet Week will showcase that connection, while celebrating the city’s diversity, patriotism, and unwavering support for those in uniform. The event is also expected to draw military representatives from across all branches, along with civic leaders, veterans groups, and guests from across Texas, uniting the community in an extraordinary celebration of service and sacrifice.
