Michael R. Williams Named TDECU Market President & Head of Commercial Lending for Greater Houston

In a strategic move poised to strengthen its presence in one of the nation's most dynamic financial landscapes, TDECU has appointed Michael R. Williams as Market President and Head of Commercial Lending for the Greater Houston Region. With a career spanning over three decades in the financial services sector, Williams brings with him a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and a passion for community-focused banking that aligns seamlessly with TDECU’s Member-first mission.

A Trailblazer in Houston's Banking Industry

Williams’ appointment marks a significant milestone for TDECU as the credit union continues to expand its footprint in Houston’s competitive commercial banking sector. A seasoned executive, Williams launched his banking career at Texas Commerce Bank in 1992 and most recently held the position of Executive Vice President and Senior Sales Manager of Commercial Lending at Frost Bank.

His robust background includes expertise in mergers and acquisitions, syndicated loans, and corporate-industrial lending, making him uniquely qualified to navigate the complexities of commercial finance in a fast-evolving economic climate.

“I am looking forward to using all my expertise to support TDECU’s Members,” Williams said. “I’ve seen the impact a purpose-driven financial institution like this can make, and I’m thrilled to be a part of that journey.”

Aligning Leadership with Community Impact

TDECU President and CEO Isaac Johnson praised Williams for his commitment to relationship-building and his ability to lead through innovation and integrity.

“Michael’s proven ability to foster strong client relationships and guide high-performing teams through the intricate world of commercial lending is exactly what we need as we shape our future,” said Johnson. “He understands the Houston market, and he shares our dedication to improving the Member experience.”

A proud alumnus of the University of Houston, Williams is no stranger to public service and civic engagement. He currently holds key leadership roles on the boards of the Texas Southern University Foundation, the City of Houston TIRZ #7, and Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. As Board Chair of Hope for Families, Williams champions initiatives that strengthen families and elevate underserved communities throughout the Greater Houston Area.

A New Chapter for TDECU’s Growth and Innovation

In a complementary leadership shift, TDECU also announced the promotion of Laura Whitley, former Market President, to Senior Vice President of Marketing. Whitley, a longstanding leader within the organization, will now oversee branding, communications, and Member engagement strategies.

“Representing TDECU in our community has been a true honor,” Whitley shared. “This new role allows me to take the voice of our Members and translate it into strategies that enhance their experience and deepen our connection with the communities we serve.”

Strengthening Houston's Financial Future

As TDECU continues to evolve from a regional credit union into a leading force in commercial lending, the addition of Williams signals a bold and intentional step toward shaping a more responsive, resilient, and inclusive financial future for the Houston region.

His leadership is expected to amplify TDECU’s commercial capabilities while staying rooted in its mission: People helping people achieve their financial goals.
