Newport News, VA — From the heart of Alvin, Texas, to the towering decks of one of the world’s largest aircraft carriers, Petty Officer 3rd Class Stephen Scott is living proof that small-town roots can lead to high-seas excellence. Now stationed aboard the USS John C. Stennis, a formidable U.S. Navy aircraft carrier based in Newport News, Virginia, Scott is making his mark as a dedicated retail services specialist with a mission bigger than himself.
A 2016 homeschool graduate, Scott credits his Alvin upbringing with laying the foundation for his military success. “Growing up in Alvin, Texas, really shaped my Navy career,” Scott shared. “The small-town values of hard work, community and perseverance were instilled in me early on, and those lessons have helped me stay focused and driven as I’ve progressed in the Navy.”
Since enlisting three years ago, Scott has embraced the challenges and opportunities of naval service. Working aboard the John C. Stennis—a floating city that stretches over 1,000 feet and houses thousands of sailors—requires discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of teamwork. It’s a lifestyle Scott says reflects the values he’s carried with him from the Lone Star State.
As a retail services specialist, Scott supports shipboard operations by managing the supply and distribution of goods—an essential role that keeps morale high and daily life running smoothly for the ship’s crew. His commitment to excellence ensures that sailors have access to the essentials, even in the middle of the ocean.
For the proud community of Alvin, Scott’s achievements are a powerful reminder that big dreams can be launched from even the smallest of towns. As he continues to serve his country aboard one of the Navy’s most advanced vessels, Scott carries Alvin’s spirit with him—resilient, humble, and fiercely proud.
