Houston Public Media Launches ‘Hello Houston’—A Vibrant New Daily Talk Show Celebrating the Voices and Stories of Our City

Houston Public Media has unveiled its latest breakthrough in local storytelling: “Hello Houston,” a dynamic, multi-platform daily talk show that invites listeners and viewers into conversations that matter most to the Greater Houston community.

Launched on Monday, March 31, “Hello Houston” is more than just a radio program—it's an immersive, cross-platform experience streamed live on YouTube, HoustonPublicMedia.org, and aired on News 88.7, reaching 19 counties across Southeast Texas. This innovative talk show is designed to spark dialogue, explore culture, and showcase the vibrancy of Houston’s diverse population.

Meet the Voices of Houston

At the heart of “Hello Houston” are three seasoned broadcasters, each bringing a unique voice and connection to the city:

  • Ernie Manouse – A household name in Houston media, Ernie is a multi-award-winning journalist with nearly 30 years at Houston Public Media. Known for his compelling storytelling and deep-dive interviews, Ernie provides a thoughtful lens on topics that shape Houston’s cultural landscape.

  • Frank Billingsley – A true icon in local broadcasting, Frank has been honored as a “Houston Legend” by Houston CityBook and has consistently earned the title of “Best Weathercaster” by the Associated Press, Houston Press Club, and others. With a mix of wit and warmth, Frank connects with viewers on a personal level.

  • Celeste Diaz Schurman – Bringing a rich bilingual and multicultural perspective, Celeste’s background with ESPN Deportes, Fox 26 Houston, and the University of Texas’s Moody College of Communication uniquely positions her to engage Houston’s expansive and diverse communities—especially Spanish-speaking audiences.

Together, these hosts represent the spirit of Houston—diverse, passionate, informed, and always engaged.

A Fresh Approach to Local Conversation

Executive Produced by Jim Kovacik, a Houston media veteran with three decades of experience, “Hello Houston” promises high-quality production paired with deeply human storytelling. Kovacik, who has worked with some of Houston’s largest stations and national media brands, brings expert-level audio design and editorial direction to the show.

“We’re not just doing local radio—we’re creating a community conversation,” said Laurie Ramirez, Executive Director of Content Operations. “This format gives us the freedom to go deeper, to be more creative, and to reach people where they are, whether that’s on their commute, online, or scrolling on social media.”

From hot-button issues and civic updates to arts, culture, and community triumphs, “Hello Houston” is a welcoming space for both serious dialogue and celebratory moments. Whether you’re a longtime resident or a newcomer learning the city, the show offers something meaningful every day.
