Approved as a candidate for the prestigious NASPA Board Chair election for the 2026-2027 term, Dr. Maxwell’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.

At UHD, Dr. Maxwell’s impact is profound. Tasked with steering the Division of Student Success and Student Life, he oversees a wide array of departments—from TRIO programs and academic support services to student engagement, health and well-being initiatives, and basic needs programs. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, he ensures UHD students receive a seamless, holistic educational experience. His leadership extends to initiatives like the JED Campus program, aimed at mental health support, and the Student Success Initiatives Team, which continually drives innovative approaches to student achievement.

Dr. Maxwell’s affiliation with NASPA spans decades, beginning in graduate school and evolving into a storied career of contributions. As chair of the 2023 Conference Leadership Committee and a member of the NASPA Board of Directors, he’s played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s direction. From mentoring mid-level professionals to spearheading conferences, his influence has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the James E. Scott Outstanding Mid-Level Student Affairs Professional Award and the Pillar of the Profession honor in 2020.

The NASPA Board Chair role, a three-year commitment as Board Chair-Elect, Board Chair, and Past Board Chair, is the pinnacle of volunteer leadership within the association. Elections will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2025, with only current NASPA members eligible to vote. The winning candidate will begin their term as Board Chair-Elect on March 18, 2025.
