Fort Bend County Takes a Bold Step into the Future with Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Information Technology Building

Fort Bend County is gearing up for a groundbreaking moment, literally and figuratively. On Monday, December 16, 2024, at 1:00 pm, Fort Bend County Judge KP George will lead the ceremonial start of construction for the county's new, state-of-the-art Information Technology (IT) Building. Located at 1419 Eugene Heimann Circle in Richmond, TX—next door to the Richmond Tax Office—this landmark project is set to usher in a new era of innovation and technological advancement in the county.

The new IT building is not just another brick-and-mortar structure; it’s a testament to Fort Bend County’s forward-thinking vision. Designed to serve the needs of over 900,000 residents and businesses, this facility will support 91 employees across 83 county departments, ensuring they have the resources needed to provide top-tier services. The building’s focus will be on enhancing Fort Bend’s IT infrastructure, fostering talent, and driving technological solutions that are crucial to keeping the county running smoothly in the digital age.

A Hub for Innovation and Growth

Fort Bend County’s IT department is a well-oiled machine, consisting of six divisions: Application Development, Enterprise Systems, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Project Management Office (PMO), and Finance and Administration Operations. Under the leadership of Robyn Doughtie, Director of Information Technology and CIO, this department has been at the forefront of many vital projects over the years.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Doughtie’s team quickly set up a remote work infrastructure for over 3,000 county employees. They’ve also established a Project Management Office, secured unanimous support from law enforcement partners for countywide body cameras, and ensured that IT support was in place for over 80 polling locations during critical election periods. The new IT facility will empower Fort Bend County to continue meeting these technological demands and set new standards for efficiency and innovation.

Celebrating Collaboration and Vision

The groundbreaking ceremony will be a special occasion, with remarks from Judge KP George, James Knight, the Facilities Director, F. Sabir of FS Design Build, and Robyn Doughtie herself. Together, they will share their excitement for the future of Fort Bend County and the pivotal role this new building will play in advancing technological solutions that benefit every resident.

The event will also include media interviews with project leaders and stakeholders, providing an opportunity to learn more about the groundbreaking project that will shape Fort Bend County’s technological landscape for years to come.

Fort Bend County’s Commitment to Excellence

Fort Bend County’s investment in this new IT building is more than just infrastructure—it's a commitment to excellence and a reflection of the county’s ongoing dedication to keeping up with the rapidly changing world of technology. By providing a space for innovation, collaboration, and growth, this facility will ensure that Fort Bend County remains a leader in technological services and a model for other counties to follow.

As Fort Bend County continues to grow and thrive, this new IT building will be the cornerstone of its digital future. From enhanced public services to cutting-edge cybersecurity, the new facility will foster an environment where technology and talent intersect, powering the county toward a brighter, more efficient tomorrow.
