First Colony Branch Library Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Open House

In celebration of the 30TH anniversary of the First Colony Branch Library, Fort Bend County Libraries invites the public to an Open House on Saturday, June 10, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 2121 Austin Parkway in Sugar Land.

Visitors will be treated to light refreshments, crafts, and demonstrations of digital resources. A family craft activity will begin at 2:00 pm, in the Youth Services department, and face painting will be available from 2:30 to 3:30 pm, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The First Colony Branch Library opened in June 1993. The 19,400-square-foot building was designed by architect Brooks Association for Architecture and Planning, Mark A. Stewart, Design Architect. It was the second of the four new branches built with bond-election funds voted for in 1989.

Opening with a capacity for 95,000 items, it quickly grew to become the busiest of all of the library system locations at that time. It continues to be one of the most widely used libraries in the system.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, see the Fort Bend County Libraries website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us
