CHALFONT, Pa. – Growing up on her father’s farm in Denmark and then immigrating to America, Glenn Peterson’s mother lived an interesting life. He wanted to preserve her story before the memories of what she told him began to fade from his mind. Thus, he writes “The Girl From Copenhagen: A Memoir Revisited” (published by Xlibris).
The book continues the story of Peterson’s mother’s life that he began in the “The Girl From Copenhagen.” In this sequel, he fills in some significant details that he did not incorporate in the earlier book, and expand in the final years of his mother’s life, including her death from dementia at the age of 94. Both books include photos that record his mother’s long life.
“My mother often told me stories of her childhood in Denmark. I regret that over the years, I never took the trouble to commit any of her reminiscences to paper. Here I was, spending my time writing mediocre short stories, when I had the much richer and more engaging story of my mother’s life right in front of me,” Peterson says. “After my mother died, I had to refresh my memory of what she told me by going through her photo albums and reading old aerograms she had saved from her mother.”
“The Girl From Copenhagen: A Memoir Revisited” is a love story that describes the love between a man and a woman and the love between a mother and her son. It aims to remind readers that love conquers all, and love survives even after the sudden death of a loved one.
