TEXAS COALITION OF BLACK DEMOCRATS
March 11, 2020
The Honorable Tom Perez
Chairman
Democratic National Committee
Dear Chairman Perez:
I am writing to request your assistance and that of the DNC. As I am sure you are aware, there were major problems in Texas on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 during the Democratic Primary election, in particular the long lines in Harris County. Some voters had to stand in line for hours into the early morning hours of March 4th to vote.
We need your help, in Texas, because this was not just a matter of incompetence. It was as Texas State Senator Borris Miles described it, essentially a form of voter suppression. What happened on March 3rd was not just outrageous, it is also likely to have a chilling effect on Black voter turnout for the May 26th Democratic United States Senate run-off election and the November General Election. Lower Black voter turnout in May and November could dramatically impact both future elections.
Democrats can win Texas, in the November 2020 General Election, but only if we increase Black voter turnout to at least 1.5 million. We have the numbers to get that done if the DNC and other Democratic organizations and donors invest $5 million in Black voter registration, outreach and turnout all across Texas, especially in East Texas and our urban counties.
If Democrats can win Texas, in November, we win The White House. Texas may be a long shot, but it is a realistic bet as $5 million is a small fraction of what will be spent in Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin between now and November.
The Texas Coalition of Black Democrats and Black elected officials across the State of Texas, and specifically in Harris County, need you and the DNC to help ensure that there are no long lines for the
May 26th Texas Run-Off election and the November General Election.
The Coalition also needs you and the DNC to invest, or help secure, $5 million dollars in Black voter registration, education and get out the vote funding to invest all across Texas for the November General Election.
Thank you in advance your full and thoughtful consideration of these requests. I can be contacted directly at 832-863-8092 to discuss these matters.
Sincerely, Hon. Carroll G. Robinson, Esq.
State Chairman
