"I stand with Representative Nicole Collier and my fellow colleagues in calling for public policy to prevent more senseless killings like that of Atatiana Jefferson. Despite gains we have made in the last few sessions—Texas still needs to improve their peace officer training and police department relationships with communities of color. Additionally, we need to enhance our policy of outside investigation of deaths in custody to include shootings involving law enforcement."
