CYPRESS, TX– May 3, 2019: DyAnna Tucker, a first-year nursing student at Prairie View A&M University in Texas, managed to complete her second semester of classes this week despite a cyst in her brain that is causing seizures, blurred vision and massive headaches.

After being misdiagnosed by two separate doctors, the 19-year-old student was rushed to the emergency room on December 26, 2018, where doctors discovered a pineal gland cyst, about the size of a marble, right in the center of her brain.

While most people with this type of cyst will never show symptoms, in rare cases like DyAnna’s, the cyst is causing severe headaches, vision problems, muscle spasms, and seizures. The doctors informed her she needs to have surgery to remove the cyst in order to avoid life-threatening complications and the possible buildup of spinal fluid within her brain.

DyAnna’s surgery is scheduled for May 29, 2019, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The problem is the 19-year-old student does not have health insurance, and her family doesn’t have the means to cover the $60,000+ needed for her surgery and medical expenses.

DyAnna’s mother, Rosemary Tucker, has been racing the clock to try and sell hoodies across Houston bearing the words “I Am Healed” to raise enough money for the surgery, and inspire her daughter to think positive as they face the challenge of their lives together.

Rosemary, who owns a Christian apparel boutique called Blessties in Cypress, Texas, has sold over 750 hoodies, raising about $18,750 toward DyAnna’s medical expenses. She needs to sell 2,000 more to reach the $60,000 goal for the surgery on May 29.

Ironically, the mother and daughter are struggling through this frightening ordeal during Brain Tumor Awareness Month. While brain cysts are technically not tumors, they are tumor-like spheres filled with fluid that can cause life-threatening physical, emotional, and cognitive problems in historically healthy, vibrant people.

DyAnna and Rosemary are sharing their story in hopes of raising awareness for this type of disease, that can often go undetected based on the symptoms. DyAnna was told by two different doctors that her debilitating headaches were caused by the stress of being a first year college student, food poisoning, and a sinus infection.

“We’re so grateful we found the cause of DyAnna’s headaches before it was too late,” said Rosemary Tucker. “As frightening as this surgery, and the thought of not raising enough money for it is, thank God there is hope my daughter can be healed. “

Friends have set up a GoFundMe page for donations and local celebrities like Tre Tha Truth and restaurants like the Turkey Leg Hut have also jumped on board to support and host events to help raise money for DyAnna's surgery.
