Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released this statement following the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, the second recent crash of a 737 Max 8 model:

“Over the weekend, Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed shortly take-off from Addis Adaba. All 157 people on board died. This is the second recent suspicious crash of a 737 Max 8 model. In October, Lion Air Flight No. 610 crashed shortly after take-off, killing all 189 on board. The loss of life of these two incidents—346 people—is enormous. I mourn all who perished in this tragedy, including the eight Americans who lost their lives in this incident, and the many employees of the United Nations, who often flew Flight 302, and who would perish in its final flight. Out of a concern for security, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, calls for hearings following the crash of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302. The hearings and investigation are necessary for the security of the American people. We must be vigilant in calling for hearings now.”
