Arts Nonprofit Announces Open Applications for Nationally Recognized Entrepreneurship Program

Fresh Arts has announced the opening of applications for the Artist INC Houston 2020 seminar. Artist INC is a nationally-recognized arts entrepreneurship program designed to provide business training and relevant resources to multi disciplined artists. Artist INC in Houston is presented in partnership with Mid-America Arts Alliance. The deadline to apply for the program is Friday, January 10, 2019 at 5 p.m. and there is no fee to apply. Artists of all disciplines and mediums are encouraged to apply.

Artists are selected for the program through a competitive application process and panel comprised of community arts leaders and artists, representing a range of artistic disciplines. Criteria for acceptance are focused on the quality of artistic work and promise of participation in their local community network, with consideration given for an artist’s career goals and overall readiness for the program.

Houston Alumni are comprised of a diverse set of creatives including fire dancers, choreographers, painters, photographers, fashion designers, creative writers, calligraphy artists, craft business owners, and more.

“Continuing the Artist INC program in Houston is vital to strengthening our creative community by allowing local artists to develop meaningful relationships with like minded peers outside of their discipline. The program also provides them with essential business skills to create a sustainable career for themselves,” said Marci Dallas, Executive Director of Fresh Arts.

The Artist INC program addresses the specific business needs and challenges artists of all disciplines face every day. Artists gather for one night a week for ten weeks to learn business skills specific to their art practice and work to apply those skills cooperatively with their peers. Using an innovative class design, artists learn and grow together through artist facilitator mentoring and small group application activities in addition to large group discussion and multimedia lecture.

Through mentorship, expert presentations, and peer networks, artists will gain:

A strategic artist’s plan for pursuing, marketing and sustaining their art; and

A long-term network of cross-discipline, diverse artists to provide peer learning and support into the future.

Peer facilitators for Artist INC include Emanuelee “Outspoken Bean,” Eepi Chaad, Tami Merrick Moschioni, Nicola Parente, Dominique Røyem, Christopher Thomas, Lori Yuill, Angela Carranza and Reyes Ramirez.
