Principals make rules for students to follow. However, the new principal at James Madison High School is teaching parents a little about appearance. Carlotta Outley Brown, Madison’s new principal, has issued a new dress code for parents refusing entry to them to the campus if they are inappropriately dressed. Citing Madison’s high education standards, parents will be turned away if they are wearing bonnets, pajamas, hair rollers, head scarves, leggings, etc. More items are listed on the school’s website. Of course, this has been met with mixed emotions. Some parents think it is insulting to tell them what to wear while others welcome the idea. Houston ISD does give each principal authority to regulate student dress but does not speak to parents’ attire. Neither Houston ISD nor Brown has commented about the parent dress code.
