It’s Official: Adrian Garcia Wins Election for Harris County Commissioner, Precinct 2

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Former County Sheriff Adrian Garcia has been elected Harris County Commissioner for Precinct 2. After a protracted vote count, Commissioners Court certified the election results today.

Commissioner-Elect Garcia made the following statement:

“It is the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Precinct 2 as County Commissioner. I am deeply grateful to my family, the voters and all of our supporters.

“The campaign is over and now it is time for all of us to come together, roll up our sleeves and begin the hard work of improving our communities. We’re already off to a great start – because Precinct 2 is blessed with the most humble and hard-working people I know.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I’m going to start by fulfilling my promise to voters: making education a priority in county government. On Day One, I will create the senior position of Education Advisor to direct these efforts.

“As I embark on this new chapter in public service, I remember the advice my dad gave me when I started my first public service job as a Houston police officer: ‘Don’t be ashamed that you are Mexican; don’t be ashamed that your name is Garcia; don’t bring shame to your name; be honest; and never forget where you come from.’

“For a kid who came from Houston’s Northside and still lives there today, serving as County Commissioner for Precinct 2 is a dream come true. I’ll work hard every day to live up to my dad’s words of wisdom and to honor the trust placed in me by the voters.

"Thank you!"
