Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Statement Regarding the Mass Shooting At Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Judiciary and Homeland Security and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement on the mass shooting at Santa Fe High School, in Santa Fe, Texas:

“Today, we witnessed another horrific act of gun violence at a school. News reports suggest that this latest mass shooting incident claimed the lives of nine students, and one teacher. This time the community ravaged is Santa Fe, Texas. I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to their families and loved ones. I pray for the complete and swift recovery of the many others who were wounded and that everyone affected has the love and support they need now and in the days and months ahead.

“I commend the first responders who acted quickly and courageously, and we extend our love to the people of Galveston County who are now reeling from this senseless attack. The easy access of guns have contributed to 23 school shootings that have occurred to date this year in our nation. These places of education should be a sanctuary where children can learn and prepare to lead productive and amazing lives. As Americans, we must unite behind them, lift them up, and help them heal from this dreadful tragedy.”
