Three local college-bound students classified as “homeless” due to Hurricane Harvey were surprised by Houston celebrities who gave each student a $1,000 shopping spree at the Galleria Mall. The students all attend Yes Prep Public Schools and were “unexpectedly informed” on campus on Dec. 20 by legendary hip-hop artists Paul Wall and Lil Keke, and social media star Athena. The Houston legends then took the students, who have each experienced difficult, personal challenges in 2017, on a well-deserved shopping spree, courtesy of Cricket Wireless.

Students benefitting from Cricket Wireless’ generosity were classified as juniors and seniors at Yes Prep. They are as follows: Jason Akpabio, Davenese Bailey and Eden Umanzor. Needless to say, upon hearing about the surprise they were excited and overwhelmed with the entire experience.
