We Must Help Our Friends In Mexico

Houston, TX – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House Committees on Homeland Security and Judiciary, and Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations issued the following statement about the devastating earthquake near Mexico City.

“At this moment, our friends in Mexico are reeling from the effects of a catastrophic earthquake. So far, more than 40 people are known to have been killed and experts fear the death toll is likely to rise.

“Dozens of buildings have been toppled and hundreds of other structures severely damage. Today’s 7.1 magnitude earthquake comes on the hills of another powerful quake earlier this month from which our friends in Mexico are still trying to recover.

“To all of those whose lives have been impacted, I offer my deepest condolences and prayers. While Americans rebuild from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, we must send help to our friends in Mexico. That is what good neighbors do.”
