Third Ward is one of five pilot program locations for the initiative. Acres Home, Gulfton, Second Ward and Near Northside are the others. Mayor Sylvester Turner, City of Houston departments, partnering agencies, and community representatives were at the Complete Communities meeting that has a goal to strengthen Houston’s under-resourced neighborhoods. The city will work in a concentrated manner with stakeholders in each community and partners across Houston to create more complete neighborhoods with enhanced access to quality affordable homes, jobs, well-maintained parks and greenspace, improved streets and sidewalks, grocery stores and other retail, good schools, and transit options. The work in these pilot areas will help develop solutions that are transferable to other communities across the city. The meetings gave residents from pilot neighborhoods the opportunity to share their unique vision for their neighborhood. The vision and input they provided will help define how to make their neighborhood a Complete Community.
