City-Wide Excitement for Texas' Greatest Tradition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

RODEO ROUNDUP & GO TEXAN DAY

It’s Houston’s favorite time of year — it's Rodeo time! Thousands gathered downtown Tuesday, Feb. 28, for Rodeo Roundup in celebration of agriculture and Western heritage as Mayor Sylvester Turner officially declared March 3, 2017, Go Texan Day.

Go Texan Day celebrates Houston’s rich ties to Western heritage and the highly-anticipated arrival of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Step out in your best Western attire on Friday, March 3, during this city-wide celebration of Texas’ greatest tradition.

WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP BAR-B-QUE CONTEST

Barbecue connoisseurs from across Texas and the world will gather this weekend, March 2–4, to grill seriously good grub for the annual World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. This year 266 teams will compete in this invitation-only event for coveted championship titles at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™.

Listen to live music entertainment from Cory Morrow, Flatland Cavalry, Jessie James Decker and more on the Miller Lite Stage at the Garden and the Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon. Admission tickets provide visitors access to all public shows, the carnival and a complimentary brisket sandwich plate from the Chuck Wagon.

TRAIL RIDES

In Texas, we’re all about traditions. What started in 1952 with four men traveling by trail from Brenham, Texas, to Houston to gather people for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, has grown to more than 3,000 trail riders participating in this 65-year-long tradition.

Thousands of riders on 13 different trails, traveling from as far south as Hidalgo, Texas, will ride more than 1,800 miles to Houston, recreating life in the Old West and creating excitement for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

DOWNTOWN RODEO PARADE

Thousands will gather in downtown Houston this Saturday, March 4, for the 79th annual Downtown Rodeo Parade. Arrive early and fill the streets to watch beautifully decorated floats, marching bands and trail riders march along city streets amongst a background of skyscrapers.

RODEO RUN

Swap out your boots for tennis shoes and join us for the 30th annual Rodeo Run, presented by ConocoPhillips. On Saturday, March 4, more than 10,000 runners will race through the streets of downtown Houston, competing in a 10k, 5k and fun run in support of Texas youth.

All proceeds from the run will be donated to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund to provide scholarships for deserving Texas high school students.
