Miss Black Texas’ Arrest Was Not Racially Motivated, Investigation Finds

Charges have been dropped against the 2016 Miss Black Texas Carmen Ponder, and a Texas police chief has been cleared of racial allegations in the controversial arrest last month. Ponder was arrested and charged with evading arrest in a "road rage" incident between her and a man she initially believed was Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews. She later acknowledged she may have mistaken Crews for someone else. The Hunt County district attorney dropped the charges against Ponder due to insufficient evidence, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5). The city said that Crews had been shopping at Wal-Mart when he became involved in the dispute between Ponder and the man, and that she was arrested when she failed to comply with Crews' requests.
