Cornyn: Senate Set to Pass VA Reform Bill Today

‘Last week, President Trump signed into law a bipartisan bill which gives our veterans a preference when it comes to being hired for law enforcement jobs here in America.’

WASHINGTON – Today at a press conference, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) discussed his bipartisan legislation, the America Law Enforcement Heroes Act, which was signed into law by President Trump last week, as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, which is expected to pass the Senate later today. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video of his remarks can be found here.

“Last week, President Trump signed into law a bipartisan bill which gives our veterans a preference when it comes to being hired for law enforcement jobs here in America. I know nobody thinks that anything bipartisan happens here anymore, but that’s an example of something that actually passed into law. And the Leader mentioned another important bipartisan bill, and this has to do with reforming the Department of Veterans Affairs.”

“Not until today’s vote will we have been providing the kind of tools that will allow managers at the VA to hold VA employees accountable and potentially fire them if they don’t take care of our veterans like we intend them to do. So this is another good example of a bipartisan bill that will be signed into law shortly and, I think, represents real progress for people who deserve it most.”

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees.
