Miller Theatre Undergoing Improvements

HOUSTON (December 8, 2017) ─ After Miller Outdoor Theatre’s 2017 season came to a close, the lawn seating portion of the hill at Houston’s always-free performance venue was fenced off as it undergoes improvements, including drainage repair to the hill, waterproofing to the front of house audio booth, major sod repair, aeration and top dressing. Additional repairs include seat wall repair in the East plaza dining bosque and a new electrical power transformer.

“Few things in Houston are as iconic as a free evening performance at Miller Outdoor Theatre,” said Dawn Ullrich, president and CEO of Houston First Corporation, which manages Miller Outdoor Theatre for the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department. “When completed, these improvements will make for an even better patron experience at Miller.”

Major components of the project will be completed by the end of December 2017. The temporary fence surrounding the hill will remain in place until mid March 2018 to allow the new Bermuda grass time to take root.

Miller Theatre Advisory Board Managing Director Cissy Segall Davis stated, “Miller’s much anticipated 95th Anniversary Season opens March 16, 2018 at 8 p.m. with VoLo by Diavolo. Seen on Season 12 of America’s Got Talent, this exciting ensemble of dancers, gymnasts, rock climbers and athletes pushes the limits of contemporary dance with their gravity-defying choreography and heart-stopping aerobatics. As always, all performances at Miller Theatre are free to the public.”

Houston First is funding and managing the $130,000 project. Contractors are Brown & Root, Baez Electrical and Maldonado Landscaping.
