Applications Being Accepted for Free Program That Helps Houstonians Learn How to Get Out of Debt and Become Financially Fit

Houston (August 16, 2017) – Capital One Bank and Windsor Village United Methodist Church are now accepting applications for the next session of Debt Boot Camp: How to Get Out, Stay Out and Become Financially Fit!

The Debt Boot Camp is a free program designed to walk participants through the process of becoming debt-free and financially sound. This innovative, collaborative program is centered on a successful course study proven to help individuals and families eliminate debt long-term. Participants learn the importance of establishing savings while improving their credit.

In addition to obtaining access to premium personal financial education at no cost, those who register for the program receive free one-on-one confidential financial counseling from experts with The BridgePath, as well as coaching from Capital One bankers.

Capital One Bank also offers participants the opportunity to open a no-fee savings account and earn a $100 match after saving $500. Benefits offered by Capital One Bank’s partners in the program include Covenant Community Capital’s Individual Development Account, which features matching funds up to $2,000 for participants who meet income and other guideline qualifications, and an estate planning package from Earl Carl Institute.

“The Debt Boot Camp aligns perfectly with Capital One Bank’s commitment to make a real and positive difference for the citizens and businesses of our region, and we are pleased to return as sponsor of the program,” said Jim Nicholas, Houston Market President for Capital One Bank. “Capital One is proud to partner with Windsor United Methodist Church in offering this program to the Houston community for the fifth year in a row.”

Windsor Village Senior Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell added: “Through the Debt Boot Camp, individuals and families who are in debt and are willing to commit to getting out of debt are provided the appropriate mentoring, resources and tools to achieve financial fitness now and in the future. This opportunity, which is open to all of Houston, could not be possible without Capital One Bank. The Windsor Village Church Family is proud to partner with Capital One Bank in this life-changing endeavor.”

The Debt Boot Camp Program has graduated more than 450 people from across greater Houston since 2012. Many of them have seen their credit scores increase. Some have been able to purchase cars and homes, a goal they once thought unattainable.

Orem, Houston, Texas, 77085 once a month on the third Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon for seven months.
