Lindsay Buchanan

Fashion Writer

Lindsay Buchanan is a 21-year-old fashion writer and pop culture enthusiast from Houston, Texas. Lindsay will graduate from Howard University in May 2014 with a B.A. in Journalism and a concentration in public relations. As a true “Jacqueline” of all trades, Lindsay has worked on Capitol Hill, at a top 5 PR firm, and served as an assistant account executive at a digital communications firm, but fashion journalism is her true passion.

Lindsay’s lifestyle and curvy fashion blog, Southern Belle Stylista, is widely read, and her street style photos are well circulated on Pinterest and Tumblr. She dishes out fashion advice and interviews some of the best designers in the industry for Houston Style Magazine's print and digital formats.

Lindsay gained invaluable PR experience during her time as a press fellow on Capitol Hill and as the PR Director of Howard University’s Hilltop Newspaper. On “the Hill,” she maintained media relations with representatives from national news outlets like ABC News, MSNBC, CNN, and CurrentTV. Lindsay has become a skilled social media community and content manager. She is an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, and she donates her time to the D. Parke Gibson Chapter as publicity chair.

Lindsay has contributed to popular student blogs like HBCUBuzz and The HU Reaction as well as Howard University’s publications 101 magazine and The Hilltop newspaper. Her work has also been featured in Houston’s African-American community newspaper Forward Times. She currently serves as a fashion beat writer for Urbanista magazine and a style columnist and fashion news reporter for Houston Style Magazine. Lindsay also manages her personal style blog, www.SouthernBelleStylista.com, which averages 400 views per week.

One day, Lindsay hopes to open a full-service communications firm that specializes in brand management and media buying for retail brands. The Houston native enjoys playing the violin in her spare time; she found her love for the instrument at the age of three and has been playing ever since. She has previously served as the concertmistress of the Howard University Orchestra. Her other hobbies include writing fiction, blogging, and discovering new music from alternative bands. Although one day her dreams might take her to New York or Los Angeles, Lindsay will always be a Texas girl.
