Photography by Vicky Pink - The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Houston chapter celebrated 30 years of providing scholarships to local students at the UNCF Houston’s “A Mind Is…” Gala. The organization has raised $9.8 million dollars to date to support UNCF member HBCUs and provide scholarships for local students who may have been otherwise unable to attend a college or university. They vowed to continue to provide scholarships to 700 more students. More than 900 supporters watched honors bestowed to Neil and Maria Bush and Dr. Nicole McZeal Walters and a special recognition of Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis. Then partygoers dance to the musical performances by Morris Day and The Time. Some in attendance were Juana Collins, Dr. Michael Lomax, Mayor Sylvester Turner, Terry Williams, Winell Herron, Houston City Controller Chris Brown, Shawntell McWilliams, Bryce Kennard, and Pastor Marcus D. Cosby.
