26th Mayor’s Jazz Scholarship Brunch

Photography by Vicky Pink - Mayor Sylvester Turner hosted his first Mayor’s Jazz Scholarship Brunch to support Jazz Education, Inc. The music filled affair featured Mayor Turner as the guest conductor of the Summer Jazz Workshop All-Star Orchestra using the infamous baton once used by the famous conductor Arturo Toscanini to conduct the NBC Symphony Orchestra. Since the baton’s donation by The Strake Foundation former Mayors such as Brown, Lanier, and White have all conducted our students. Profits benefit the ongoing educational programs like the H-E-B Summer Jazz Workshop and the Jazz & Poetry Series. Some in attendance were Conrad Johnson, Donna Franklin, Delloyd Parker, and Thomas Melanson.
