The Shooting of Michael Brown: Now What? Conference

On Thursday, October 9, 2014, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law for The Shooting of Michael Brown: Now What? Conference. The Earl Carl Institute for Legal & Social Policy hosted an esteemed group of experts in the area of Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) to present the forum entitled The Shooting of Michael Brown: Now What? “Systemic Maltreatment: Dismantling Disproportionality through Strategic Partnerships.” The community was provided with information about inequities suffered by African Americans in the education, healthcare, foster care and criminal justice systems. The goal of the event was to help form strategic partnerships to try to reduce the overrepresentation of people of color in these systems. Speaking at the conference was Dannye Holley, Sarah R. Guidry, Joyce James, Dr. Dashiel J. Geyen, Dr. Janice Beal, Helen Greene, Deborah Green, Delishia Aprill Grooms, Cory Sessions, Tyra McCollum, Dr. Tracy Levins, James Jenkins, Hon. C. O. Bradford, and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Some in attendance were Dr. Docia Rudley, Algenita Scott Davis, Cindy George, and Tabitha Conway.
