2014 MLB Beacon Awards Luncheon

On Friday, May 30, 2014, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Hilton Americas Hotel for the 2014 MLB Beacon Awards Luncheon. The affair was part of a series of events for the 2014 Civil Rights Game, co-hosted by the Houston Astros. Jim Brown was honored with the MLB Beacon of Hope award. Berry Gordy received the MLB Beacon of Change award. The late Dr. Maya Angelou was recognized with the MLB Beacon of Life award. Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts was the keynote speaker. Entertainment was provided by singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc and Grammy Award-winning violinist and UN Goodwill Ambassador Miri Ben-Ari. Some in attendance were Commissioner Allan H. Selig, Robin Robinson, State Rep. Sylvester Turner, Monique Brown, and Hank Aaron.
