12th Annual Summer Workshop/Course Disparities in Health in America: Working Towards Social Justice

Photography by Vicky Pink - On June 23-28, 2014, Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing for the 12th Annual Summer Workshop/Course Disparities in Health in America: Working Towards Social Justice. Chaired by Dr. Lovell A. Jones and co-chaired by Dr. Betty N. Adams, the event allowed attendees to gain an understanding of health disparities, investigate ways to enhance health equity, and give broad base of knowledge to addressing health disparities in minorities and underserved populations. Former US Secretary of Health & Human Services Dr. Louis W. Sullivan was the keynote speaker. Other speakers were Dr. Luis Cifuentes, Joseph F. Woelkers, Channte J. Keith, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Angelina Esparza, Dr. Robert Robbins, and Dr. Alicia D. H. Monroe.
