Annual Phoenix Awards Dinner at the CBCF

Photography by Vicky Pink - On Monday, September 21, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on hand in Washington, D.C. at the Annual Phoenix Awards Dinner in conjunction with the 43rd Annual Legislative Conference at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Yearly at the black-tie gala honorees are recognized for their exceptional achievements and service to the Congressional Black Caucus. President William Jefferson Clinton, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland and Elaine Jones, former president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund were this year’s noteworthy honorees. The highlight of the affair that was emceed by MSNBC Television Host Tamron Hall and actor Wendell Pierce was the keynote address by President Barack Obama. President Obama talked various issues including health care, gun violence, and creating economic opportunity. Some in attendance were Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Dikembe Mutombo, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Congressman Al Green, James Ward, Dr. Reagan Flowers, Rev. Al Sharpton, Roland Martin, Judge Greg Mathis, and Bernard A. Harris, Jr.
