6th Annual Leaders of Democracy Awards Luncheon

Photography by Vicky Pink - On Wednesday, September 18, 2013, Houston Style Magazine was on hand in Washington, D.C. at the 6th Annual Leaders of Democracy Awards Luncheon. The luncheon was hosted by The Memorial Foundation, Inc. benefitting The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. The Memorial Foundation’s purpose is to promote awareness of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and its tenets of democracy, justice, hope, and love as well as to support the general upkeep of the Memorial in future years. Angela Rye, Jose Antonio Vargas, Lamell McMorris, Phillip Agnew, Senator Nina Turner, and Lia Epperson all received the Drum Majors for Justice Leadership Award. Some in attendance were Roland Martin, Harry E. Johnson Sr., Rev. Thomas Bowen, Bonnie Burnett, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Congressman Jim Marshall, and Rev. Thomas Watson.
