More than 130 cats, kittens, dogs and puppies currently living in foster homes across Galveston, Harris and Fort Bend counties are waiting for one thing: a chance to find a permanent home.

SAVE Rescue Coalition, a 100 percent volunteer-led and supported animal rescue organization, is asking the public to step up by adopting, fostering, volunteering or donating. The organization has no brick-and-mortar shelter and relies entirely on foster families to provide safe and loving temporary homes for animals rescued from the streets.

The need is urgent. Until more of the cats and kittens currently in foster care are adopted, SAVE Rescue Coalition cannot take in additional animals in need.

“All of these animals need someone,” according to the rescue's call for community support. “Everyone can do something, and every something helps.”

Adoption Can Make Room to Save Another Life

Currently, approximately 130 animals are available for adoption through SAVE Rescue Coalition. Available cats, kittens, dogs and puppies can be viewed at SAVERESCUE.org.

PetSmart in Missouri City graciously shares its “cattery” with SAVE Rescue Coalition to help cats and kittens meet potential adopters. Adoption events are held there every Saturday, giving local residents an opportunity to meet some of the animals looking for their forever homes.

Foster Homes Are the Heart of the Rescue

For those who cannot commit to adoption, fostering can provide an equally important lifeline.

Because SAVE Rescue Coalition does not operate a physical shelter, every available foster home creates space for another animal to be rescued. Fostering comes at no cost to the volunteer. Foster families simply provide a safe and loving place for an animal to stay.

The commitment can be as short as a weekend or longer for those willing to foster puppies or kittens.

Students Can Earn Service Hours While Helping Animals

With the school year underway, SAVE Rescue Coalition is also encouraging high school students who need service hours to get involved.

Volunteer opportunities include helping at the cattery, assisting with adoption events and supporting the organization's social media efforts. Students and other community members interested in volunteering can learn more through SAVE Rescue Coalition's volunteer page.
