Houston Christian University (HCU) will launch a new Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence in Fall 2027, giving students an opportunity to pursue specialized training in a field increasingly shaping workplaces, industries and communities.

The new program, developed through HCU’s College of Science and Engineering, will combine foundational studies in computer science, mathematics and engineering with advanced coursework focused on artificial intelligence.

Students will study areas including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, large language models and artificial intelligence applications in cybersecurity.

The program is designed to provide students with both technical knowledge and practical experience. Students will complete an internship and senior capstone project, giving them opportunities to apply what they learn to real-world projects while developing a portfolio of work before graduation.

A key component of the degree will be its focus on the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence. The curriculum will challenge students to examine not only what AI technologies can accomplish, but also how they can be designed and implemented responsibly.

That emphasis reflects HCU’s Christ-centered educational mission and is intended to help students consider the broader impact of AI on individuals, organizations and society.

The university said the program is being developed in response to growing workforce demand for professionals with artificial intelligence expertise. Graduates may pursue careers including AI engineer, machine learning engineer, data scientist, software developer and AI solutions architect, along with other technology-related positions. The degree can also provide preparation for graduate study in artificial intelligence and related fields.
