Readers across Houston will have a chance to celebrate love, storytelling, and local literary talent as Houston Public Library hosts an engaging afternoon with one of the city’s most celebrated contemporary romance writers.
Award-winning author Chencia C. Higgins will visit the Young Neighborhood Library on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 2 to 3 p.m., offering an exclusive Author Talk and a first look at her upcoming novel, A Little Kissing Between Friends. The event promises an intimate and lively conversation about her work, creative journey, and the themes of love and identity that define her writing.
Held at Young Neighborhood Library, the gathering is part of the library system’s ongoing effort to connect the community with dynamic voices in literature. Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase books on-site through Kindred Stories, a beloved Houston bookstore known for amplifying diverse authors and stories.
Higgins, who often describes herself as “just a girl from Texas writing about sassy, southern women finding love,” has built a national reputation for crafting heartfelt, character-driven romances that center Black love and joy. Her debut paranormal romance, Janine: His True Alpha, earned her an Emma Award in 2019, marking her as a rising voice in the genre. She continued that momentum with her 2022 traditionally published novel, D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding, which was recognized by The New York Times as one of the best romances of the year.
Known for blending humor, authenticity, and emotional depth, Higgins’ work resonates with readers seeking fresh, inclusive love stories rooted in Southern culture and lived experience. Her upcoming release is expected to continue that tradition, offering fans both familiar warmth and new narrative twists.
The March 28 event is free and open to the public, making it an inviting opportunity for readers, aspiring writers, and romance enthusiasts to connect with a hometown author whose work continues to gain national acclaim.
