Fort Bend County Animal Services (FBCAS), a division of Fort Bend County Health and Human Services, in collaboration with the Fort Bend County Judge’s Office, is introducing its first Mobile Pet Adoption Unit, a custom-designed vehicle created to expand pet adoption opportunities across the county. The inaugural event will be held at Waggin’ Tails Pet Ranch in Fulshear on Saturday, September 20, 2025, beginning at 11 a.m.
The initiative, approved by the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court in May 2024, represents a major step in addressing shelter overcrowding while increasing visibility for adoptable animals. The mobile unit is intended to bring pets directly into neighborhoods, schools, parks, and community gatherings, ensuring that adoption services reach underserved and remote areas of the county.
Built on a 26-foot Ford E-450 chassis and customized by Magnum Mobile Specialty Vehicles, the unit is equipped to safely transport up to 21 pets in glass-fronted enclosures. Its design allows potential adopters to interact with the animals in a climate-controlled, veterinary-ready environment. Beyond adoptions, the vehicle will also provide wellness services such as vaccinations and microchipping.
The Mobile Pet Adoption Unit offers several benefits to the community:
- Increased exposure for long-stay and overlooked shelter animals
- On-site adoptions at public events
- Relief of shelter overcrowding
- Expanded outreach to areas with limited access to shelter services
- Availability of mobile veterinary services, including microchipping and vaccinations
Adoption fees will range from $10 to $80, with many events offering waived or reduced pricing. All adopted animals will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. In addition to adoption services, the unit will provide educational programming and community engagement opportunities throughout the year.
