Hadestown Broadway Musical at Houston’s Hobby Center 2026

Hadestown, the critically acclaimed musical and winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best New Musical, and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, will perform at Houston’s Hobby Center for the Performing Arts from February 10 to 15, 2026. The production is part of the Memorial Hermann Broadway at the Hobby Center 2025-26 season, with tickets going on sale Friday, October 31 at 10 a.m.

Hadestown has been the most honored show of the 2018-2019 Broadway season, receiving four Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards including Outstanding New Broadway Musical, and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical. The show was written by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and developed with director Rachel Chavkin, marking the first time in over a decade that a woman authored a musical solo, handling the music, lyrics, and book.

The musical opened on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre on April 17, 2019, and played sold-out performances before the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily halted shows. Hadestown resumed performances on September 2, 2021, and continues to run successfully on Broadway.

Originating as Mitchell’s indie theater project in Vermont and later as an acclaimed album, Hadestown has evolved into a genre-defying musical blending modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz. The story follows two intertwining love stories: young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone, taking audiences on a journey through the underworld and back. The production explores themes of industry versus nature, doubt versus faith, and fear versus love, brought to life by a vibrant ensemble of actors, singers, and dancers.

Hadestown premiered at the New York Theatre Workshop in 2016, becoming the longest-running show in the theater’s 40-year history. The musical had its Canadian premiere at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre in 2017, followed by a sold-out engagement at London’s National Theatre in 2018. The production was further developed with support from the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage and Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and was co-conceived by Ben t. Matchstick.
