The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has officially launched its historic $2.5 billion philanthropic campaign, Only Possible Here, The Campaign to End Cancer. The campaign marks the largest fundraising effort in the institution’s 84-year history and unites global philanthropic support to advance MD Anderson’s mission to end cancer. Early contributions during the silent phase have already raised $1.9 billion toward the campaign goal.
The campaign is structured around three strategic focus areas: expanding reach, expediting breakthroughs, and elevating the patient experience, all with the ultimate goal of ending cancer. Key priorities include MD Anderson’s expansion to Austin, set to break ground in 2026, which will bring comprehensive cancer care to Central Texas; the Cancer Neuroscience Program, a first-of-its-kind effort to study how cancer affects the nervous system and develop transformative treatments; and the Institute for Cell Therapy Discovery & Innovation, focused on pioneering breakthrough cell therapies such as CAR NK therapy.
Other signature priorities include the Institute for Data Science in Oncology, which will leverage artificial intelligence to analyze patient and disease data to inform discoveries and improve outcomes; the James P. Allison Institute, advancing immunotherapy breakthroughs into new therapies; and the Kinder Children’s Cancer Center, a joint venture with Texas Children’s, launching in spring 2026 to accelerate cures and provide specialized care for pediatric patients.
Additional campaign priorities include the Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing, which provides career development and wellness resources for oncology nurses; the Blueprint for Impact facilities master plan, including the 1.8 million-square-foot Patient Care Building 1 to expand outpatient and inpatient capacity; and the nation’s largest oncology patient navigation program, providing nurse navigators to guide patients from diagnosis through survivorship.
The public launch of the campaign was celebrated with a star-studded event featuring MD Anderson leaders, faculty, patients, and special guests. The evening included patient testimonials and a surprise performance by legendary musician Willie Nelson and his son Micah Nelson for 750 attendees.
The campaign invites contributions of time, talent, and resources to support MD Anderson’s work in transforming cancer care. The campaign’s signature priorities aim to accelerate discoveries, expand access to care, and enhance the patient experience, reinforcing MD Anderson’s mission to end cancer worldwide.
