Update: Downtown Traffic Signal Timing Adjustments Complete, Red Line Service Restored

METRO announced that the Red Line rail service has been fully restored, returning to the reliable service levels customers experienced before signal timing adjustments began in September. The restoration reflects the efforts of METRO engineers, operators, and staff working to fine-tune the system and enhance overall transit reliability.

“These adjustments are part of our broader effort to improve mobility for everyone who shares the roads,” said METRO Board Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock. “Our transportation network is designed for multi-modal use, and finding the right balance takes careful testing, coordination, and ongoing adjustment.”

The signal timing changes initially created some temporary disruptions, but METRO says the adjustments were essential for understanding and improving traffic flow and transit efficiency. The agency will continue monitoring system performance and making data-driven improvements to support on-time performance and the efficient use of resources.

METRO expressed gratitude to riders for their patience during the adjustment period. The system is now operating at a higher level of efficiency, supporting better coordination between buses, trains, and other travel modes. Riders are encouraged to provide feedback to help METRO identify areas for continued service improvement.
