Houston High School Students to Compete in 3rd Annual HADA Student Technician Competition

23 Teams Will Showcase Automotive Skills and Vie for Scholarships, Tools, and Career Opportunities at TSTC Rosenberg

The Houston Automobile Dealers Association (HADA), in partnership with the ASE Education Foundation, will host the 3rd annual Student Technician Competition on Friday, November 14, at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Rosenberg, Texas.

The event brings together 23 teams of high school seniors from across Greater Houston to showcase automotive skills and compete for scholarships, tools, cash prizes, and the chance to advance to the North Texas Automobile Dealers Association regional competition.

Teams rotate through timed workstations and an afternoon on-vehicle challenge to test technical, safety, and communication skills. Workstations include Electrical Circuits, Safety & Environmental practices, Technical Service Information, ASE Written Tests, Sealants/Adhesives exams, and interviews with dealership managers.

The on-vehicle competition challenges students to diagnose and repair brand-specific vehicles in 90 minutes using scan tools and manufacturer-approved service information. Before the event, students receive mentorship from ASE-certified technicians at local dealerships, connecting classroom learning with real-world experience.

Participating schools include Alief High School, Clear Springs High School, Dickinson High School, Klein High School campuses, Lamar Consolidated High School, Langham Creek High School, North Shore High School, Pearland High School, and others across Greater Houston.

The competition emphasizes the growing demand for skilled automotive technicians and the role of local dealerships in workforce development. By combining mentorship, hands-on challenges, and career guidance, the event prepares students for careers in Houston’s automotive service industry.
